GP Practice Pharmacist Support from Medacy
Medacy started supporting individual GP Practices with GP practice Pharmacists in 2014, so we have a track record in providing pharmacist-led clinical services to individual GP practices.

Is it a one-size-fits-all service?
No. GP Practices all have to provide the same services to their practice populations, but the one thing I have learnt over the years is that all practices are different, and they are all in different places regarding the support they need from Medacy. That’s why Medacy spends time before we work with a practice to understand their needs and design a bespoke support package to address their requirements and deliver excellent value for money.

Funding for GP Practice Pharmacists
Medacy’s services can be funded by practice, PCN or ICB coffers. In many ways, funding from within practice budgets gives GP teams greater control over the services commissioned from Medacy. Many practices want to take the pressure off GP workload, and we can do that by taking responsibility for tasks such as:

Processing acute requests for medication
Completing medication reconciliation following discharge from the hospital or another change in a care setting.
Completing medication reviews, including SMRs.
Specific LTC clinics, including for asthma, Hypertension, diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Low mood and pain
Processing clinic letters
Medication reauthorisation.

Reassurance
Five years ago, Meadcy strategically decided to deliver its clinical services via a team of directly employed clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. We did that so we can recruit, support, train and develop its team to become the preeminent provider of pharmacist services. Some of the other organisations in the pharmacist-led clinical services space use a model of locum deployment, which by its very nature prevents them from training and developing their team.

Medacy is CQC registered, which should reassure you that the services we provide reach and exceed the standards you are also judged by when the CQC inspects the practice.

Support
Medacy has a team of Senior Pharmacists who line manage their pharmacist and technicians teams to constantly improve the pharmacists’ and technicians’ ability to support their practices.

Governance
Medacy Clinical Governance and Risk Committee meet regularly to oversee the Clinical Services Medacy provide. We have invested in RADAR Healthcare quality management system to support continual learning and develop the service we provide to GP practices.

So, if you are a Practice Manager looking to realise the full potential of clinical pharmacy services or a GP looking for additional support, please email support@medacy.co.uk, call 01677 252201 or leave a message on the Webchat button at the bottom right-hand corner of the homepage.
